TRADE: Tre Leclaire Headed to New Westminster

by Owen Munro

The New Westminster Salmonbellies have acquired 2015 BCJALL Rookie of the Year and 2017 NCAA BIG10 Freshman of the Year Tre Leclaire from the Delta Islanders. Tre was a restricted free agent and New Westminster is sending its 2019 1st Round Pick to Delta to meet previous future considerations.

"We're very excited to have a player of Tre's caliber joining the Salmonbellie family. Tre is a generational type player that immediately adds another dimension to our club that will help prepare us to make a run for the Minto Cup. We're very excited to have him,” says General Manager Warren Goss.

The 6'2" 212 lbs. South Surrey native led all rookies in scoring with 94 points during the 2015 season. In 2016 he scored an impressive 62 points in 15 games due to Canadian National Team commitments. He was a standout at the 2016 U19 World Lacrosse Championship when Canada lost to Team USA in heartbreaking fashion. Leclaire has two more years of junior lacrosse eligibility and will be a welcome addition to the club.

Leclaire is currently a sophomore at Ohio State, where he leads the program in scoring for the second straight year, rapidly rewriting OSU record books. He was also added to the 2018 Tewaarton Award watch list for the nation's top college lacrosse player honours.

Because of those commitments, Tre is expected to miss the beginning portion of New Westminster's BCJALL season.
