Timbermen Adopt BC Guide Dog
There is something new going on with the Timbermen this year. Take a look at the team website and you will find a pretty amazing little mascot. The team has adopted a BC Guide Dog pup in training for the 2011 and 2012 seasons and has partnered with BC Guide Dog Services, a registered BC and Alberta charity in an effort to raise awareness and money for the training of seeing eye and autism support dogs.
The mascot, fittingly named "Tim" is growing up in the Qualicum Beach area and will be at the team's home opener against Delta on May 6. Joining Tim at the game will be Canadian sport legend and Order of Canada recipient, Howie Meeker. The Timbermen will be presenting Howie with an honorary Timbermen/Guide Dog jersey in recognition of his life achievements in sport and his devotion and support to BC Guide Dog Services.
In addition to canvassing for donations from fans and donating a portion of season ticket sales, the team is also throwing out a challenge to all of the other teams in the league to help raise money for this worthwhile cause.
