THREE STARS: Martel, Sundown, Jones earn weekly honours

by Owen Munro

1st STAR - RYAN MARTEL, LANGLEY THUNDER

LAST WEEK: 2 GAMES, 6 GOALS, 5 ASSISTS, 24 SHOTS (25% SHOOTING)

Ryan Martel overtook Nathan McKeigan for the lead in team scoring with 11 points in games against New West and Delta. His overall game has translated well from Intermediate, where he was one of the top scorers on the BCILL champions. He can also be dominant in the faceoff circle, going 24-17 in the dot this week, good for a 59% winning percentage.

3 STARS ON SOUNDCLOUD

2nd STAR - LARSON SUNDOWN, NEW WESTMINSTER SALMONBELLIES

LAST WEEK - 3 GAMES, 8 GOALS, 5 ASSISTS, 15 SHOTS (53% SHOOTING)

Larson Sundown hasn't wasted any time getting acclimated to the game out here in B.C., and had one of his best games yet against Martel's Thunder. He also looks like a real threat on the crease on the power play and is willing to go hunt down loose balls. He won't be scoring on half of his shots for the rest of the year, but he looks comfortable playing at the pace of the game and could be a good bet for 30 goals.

3rd STAR - RYAN JONES, DELTA ISLANDERS

LAST WEEK - 2 GAMES, 5 GOALS, 6 ASSISTS, 17 SHOTS (29% SHOOTING)

Ryan Jones has been a real go-to player for the Islanders this year, scoring eight points in a 17-11 win over the Timbermen. He was also strong against Langley but had a bit of an unlucky night, shooting 9% on 11 shots. He's scoring more than four points a game this year and is outscoring the second-leading Islander by 20 points. He sits third in the league with 40 points and second in points with 24.
