THREE STARS: Kozevnikov leads way with 7-goal scoring barrage

by Owen Munro

1st STAR - NATHANIEL KOZEVNIKOV, LANGLEY THUNDER

LAST WEEK: 3 GAMES, 10 GOALS, 1 ASSIST, 25 SHOTS (40% SHOOTING)

Kozevnikov has been huge since his return to the Thunder lineup, doing what he does best: scoring goals. He was a threat all last week, going off for seven goals that were probably the difference in a huge 17-16 road win for Langley in Victoria.

It's the way he's scoring his goals that should have the league worried as we hit the road to the playoffs. Of those 10 goals, half of them were on the power play and added two with a man down. It means he's finding all different ways to score, and you can bet on any of those shots he takes one is going to find the back of the net.

He sits fifth in team points as he only has five assists, but is tied for second in goals with 21 in five less games than second-leading scorer Nathan Mckeigan.

2nd STAR - BRAD MCCULLEY, VICTORIA SHAMROCKS

LAST WEEK: 3 GAMES, 11 GOALS, 10 ASSISTS, 22 SHOTS (50% SHOOTING)

The Shamrocks have posted some impressive offensive numbers throughout this season; they sit second in league goals with 228 in 19 games, good for 12 goals per game.

A big part of that has been second-year player Brad McCulley. After a breakout 72-point campaign in his rookie season, he looks primed to smash those totals by the end of the year. He has 63 points in 15 games and has two more games to surpass the mark.

He was great in a win over Nanaimo on Tuesday, scoring five goals and five assists and that comes after a combined 11 points (6 G 5 A) in his previous two games on the week.

3rd STAR - THOMAS SEMPLE, COQUITLAM ADANACS

LAST WEEK: 2 GAMES, 3 GOALS, 2 ASSISTS, 15 SHOTS (20% SHOOTING)

It wasn't an overly productive week for Semple, but you know it probably doesn't matter as long as the A's keep stringing together wins. Either way, he is noticeable in every game and could end up with one of the more complete seasons in the entire league.

He surpassed Dennon Armstrong with 69 points in 15 games and was strong in back-to-back Adanac wins over the Langley Thunder and Port Coquitlam Saints. He's also added several seven and eight point games and looks destined to be one of the more impactful players in this season's playoffs.
