Stickmen Thrilled by Lowe Signing

With under a month to go until the start 2008 season, the South Fraser Stickmen added a solid netminder to their roster with the much anticipated signing of Mike Lowe.

At the ripe age of eighteen, this is Lowe's first official season playing junior, even though he was aged up by the Delta Islanders last year.

"This move means a lot to me" says Lowe, "It's a new chapter in my life as an athlete. New players, coaches, and executives to work with. I'm really looking forward to this fresh start, and I see so much opportunity with South Fraser"

Needless to say, Stickmen players and management are pleased to add a goalie to their roster who has a strong lacrosse foundation, with potential to build on his already impressive numbers.

"Last year Mike faced a league leading 833 shots and still managed to put up an 81 save percentage" says South Fraser head coach Curtis Gulliford, "so we all know he can win games just on his own, but it's his attitude and good nature that makes him a character kid that everyone wants on their team. He will put a lot of heads at ease this season; this is a huge signing for our team"

Stickmen captain Jordy Willing agrees with his coach. "It all starts with the goalie, and you take it from there. We know Mike stands on his head game, after game, after game. He stoned us last year.

It will be nice for us on the floor to know he's got our back and we don't have to watch our goalie as much, we will just know he's making the right decisions back there."

As excited as Lowe is for this season, he appreciates the chance Delta gave him when they aged him up last year. "My time with the Islanders really helped me improve my progress as an athlete. Coach Gord set the bar high and put a lot of faith in me, I can't thank him enough for that."

Signing with a team who finished last place last season, would be hard choice for some players, but Lowe says the determination and potential of this years team made his decision easy "It's really easy to carry around a "losing" attitude after an eighth place finish, but from what I've seen of everyone here in the pre-season, they work hard, play hard, and that's all I can ask for as a goalie"

With a huge grin on his face, Lowe says "I want what every Jr A Lacrosse player wants, I want a Minto Cup. But to win a Minto- a team has to succeed, develop, and of course win games. I know this team can, and will do those things, and I'm happy I get to be a part of that"

To see what Mike Lowe has in store for the Stickmen this season, South Fraser plays in the very first regular-season game against Burnaby at Bill Copland Arena, April 23rd at 7PM. South Frasers first home game is April 27th at 1:30pm, when they take on the Victoria Shamrocks at the North Surrey Rec Center.
