Shamrocks defeat Thunder 8-5
After a hard fought battle with the Port Coquitlam Saints on Friday night, the Langley Thunder looked to extend their win streak to two against the Victoria Shamrocks on Saturday evening at the Langley Events Centre.
The Shamrocks got on the board first when GuyCullen scored 1:50 into the first period and surprisingly, that would be the only goal of the period. What did keep the game rather entertaining were the goaltenders on both ends coming up with big saves. Shamrocks’ MitchellGurney turned away 16 shots and ZachWickett of the Thunder turned away 20 shots and only allowing the one goal.
Towards the end of the first period, it was the end of the game for Thunder’s NicJackson and Shamrocks’ DylanRehman as they both dropped the gloves after some pushing and shoving.
The second period saw a lot more goals than the first period. The Thunder tied the game up just over a minute into the second period, but the Shamrocks regained their lead and scored on the powerplay before the halfway mark to make it a 3-1 game.
Thunder’s AndrewGresham got the Thunder back into the game when he scored at the 10-minute mark and at 4:48 to make it 3-3. However, the Shamrocks took the lead with 32 seconds left in the period.
The Thunder started the third period off with a bang - getting two shorthanded goals to get their first lead of the game within the first 5 minutes of the third period.
Within the next 2 minutes of the last Thunder goal, BradMcCulley and AdamJay each scored, one on the power play and the other shorthanded, to give the Shamrocks the lead again, making it a 6-5 game.
The dagger came with 7:10 remaining when ReesCullen put it past Wickett and for insurance, McCulley scored his second of the game and of the period, to give the Shamrocks the 8-5 victory over the Thunder.
