Salmonbellies Host Walt Weaver Night
The New Westminster Junior A Salmonbellies Lacrosse Club is proud to announce June 1st, 2010 as ‘Walt Weaver’ night. In the sprit of PRIDE & TRADITION, Walt’s number 6 jersey will forever be retired in a ceremony during the first intermission of the BCJALL game between the Salmonbellies and the Coquitlam Adanacs.
Walt’s accomplishments on the lacrosse floor are considered exceptional, if not legendary. Walt played for the Junior A Salmonbellies for a total of 5 years from 1968 to 1972 and in that time was named team ‘Captain’ in 1970, 1971 and 1972. As well, Walt captured league-scoring titles in 1970 and 1971. Along with the scoring title in 1971, Walt captured a Minto Cup Championship that year when the Richmond Roadrunners added the scoring ace to their winning roster. Walt’s 105 games leads all past and present ‘Junior Bellies’ in Games Played, placing him 5th in All Time Junior A Games Played. His total of 419 points is 2nd in All Time ‘Junior Bellies’ scoring, placing him 10th in All Time Junior A Scoring. As impressive as the junior stats are, Walt’s off floor contributions are even more appreciative.
Walt, along with Forest Day, Harry Ferguson, and Bryan Jones took full control of a struggling New West Junior A franchise 6 years ago and began to slowly rebuild the team and organization both financially as well as competively. Walt’s contributions as the team’s Governor as well as the main fundraiser were instrumental in the beginning to the survival of the club. Without his support and business experience, the junior club would not enjoy the success it’s now having. Still maintaining his Governor’s post, Walt added ‘Team President’ to his portfolio and has devoted even more time and energy to the organization. His continuing determination along with an extremely committed and hard working executive, have allowed the New Westminster Junior Salmonbellies Lacrosse Club to grow and build to its present status that now consists of successful and extremely competitive franchises in Junior A, Junior B and Intermediate A.
