Salmonbellies cruise by Timbermen

The Timbermen had a tough challenge ahead of them on Sunday evening when they took on the New Westminster Salmonbellies at Queens Park Arena.

It was all Salmonbellies in the first period. ColeBevan gave the ‘Bellies a 1-0 lead 7:09 into the first period, which was followed up by a ConnorRobinson goal with 8:37 remaining to make it 2-0. 

AdamDickson and Robinson each scored before the first period ended, pestering Timbermen goalkeeper KainStewart with 24 shots and heading into the locker room with a 4-0 lead.

The ‘Bellies continued to press in the second period as MaxGerhardt and MitchellStokes, scoring 31 seconds apart, made it 6-0 ‘Bellies. However, ErikKratz’s shutout was broken when McLeanChicquen scored shorthanded with 14:24 remaining.

JeremyBosher made it 7-1 ‘Bellies with 3:10 to go and Robinson scored his third of the game with 1:40 left in the second period to make it 8-1 Salmonbellies heading into the third period.

The Salmonbellies certainly let off the gas pedal a little bit in the third period, which let the Timbermen to get something going. Chicquen and MikeD’Amario each scored before the halfway mark to make it an 8-3 game.

Dickson quickly made it a 9-3 game, scoring 16 seconds after D’Amario’s goal and then JohnnyPearson scored with 9:05 left to make it 10-3 ‘Bellies.

The Timbermen were able to make somewhat of a push late in the third period when they got goals from ConnorLeies, Chicquen and CodyClark, but it wasn’t enough as the ‘Bellies go on to defeat the Timbermen 10-6.

The Timbermen will now take on the Langley Thunder at home on Saturday afternoon and the Salmonbellies will take on the Adanacs 14-game winning streak in hopes of snapping it on Tuesday night at Queens Park Arena.
