Saints Relieve Kelly Scott of Coaching Duties; Hire Stroup & Wahl

by Owen Munro

The Port Coquitlam Saints have relieve Head Coach Kelly Scott of his coaching duties and will turn to Dan Stroup and Josh Wahl to lead the team going forward.

Scott put together two strong years with the Saints, taking the black and yellow to back-to-back third place finishes in the BCJALL regular season. Former Colorado Mammoth and Washington Stealth assistant coach Dan Stroup and Port Coquitlam's Junior B Tier 1 Head Coach Josh Wahl will take over bench duties going forward.

Stroup recently coached with NLL Colorado, but departed from the club following the 2018 NLL Season. Stroup has a distinguished coaching record, leading teams of all ages and skill levels, from taking the reins for Team BC's women's field lacrosse program in 2014 to being behind the Stealth bench alongside Hall of Famers Chris Hall and Art Webster. The NLL Hall of Famer has more than 40 years of coaching experience and has both played and coach championship winning clubs. He will bring a guiding hand to a young club who recently picked up even more ammo in the BCJALL draft with a trade deadline deal that saw a number of Saints traded to the Adanacs.

Josh Wahl has come through the ranks of Port Coquitlam's minor system as a respected coach and is the current President of the minor club. Wahl led the Saints Tier 1 club to a 10-7-1 record and a 4th place finish. The Saints Tier 1 club was one of the stingiest teams on defense, allowing only 137 goals in 18 games behind the impressive play of goaltending duo Calvin Hofner (358 Saves, 84 GA, .810 save percentage) and Connor Ramage (160 Saves, 53 GA, .751 save percentage). Wahl also helped stoke the development of the Saints' recent draft picks and hometown players, with Jacob Dunbar (45-24-69) leading the team in scoring and inspired performances from Austin Wahl, Reese Hrycan, Evan Wray and Kale Lawrence.

The BCJALL wishes all incoming and outgoing coaches luck in their future endeavors.
