A member of the Port Coquitlam Saints has been named to the watch list for one of NCAA Division 1 field lacrosse's prestigious awards, the Tewaaraton Award.

Ryland Rees, the Port Coquitlam Saint product and a sophomore long stick midfielder at Stony Brook University, was announced alongside 49 of the best collegiate field players in the country across all divisions. The list is released annually by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation.

Rees is having a great season for the SeaWolves, leading the No. 18 ranked team in ground balls with 19 on the year. He's also added a pair of goals as Stony Brook opens the season 3-0 for the first time in over 25 years. Rees is building on a strong tournament with Team Canada at the U19 World Lacrosse Championships this summer in Coquitlam and joins former BCJALL player Josh Byrne from Hofstra on the list.

Rees played his first full season with the Saints in 2016, scoring 13 goals and 28 points in 15 games. He also shot 22 per cent on 56 shots.

Port Coquitlam opens the 2017 BCJALL Regular Season on Friday, April 28 when they host the New Westminster Salmonbellies.
