Rees, Leclaire Named to Team Canada Field Team

Port Coquitlam's Ryland Rees and New Westminster's Tre Leclaire have had the prestigious honour of being named to the final 23-man roster for the 2018 FIL World Championship in Netanya, Israel.

Rees plays long pole while Leclaire will play at attack for the defending champions, part of a group that recently came to an agreement with the CLA in order to represent Team Canada at the Worlds. Both players come off incredible years for Stony Brook and Ohio State, respectively.

Rees was a team captain for the SeaWolves and was named to the All-ECAC 1st Team for his contributions along the way. In 15 games, Rees posted six goals and two assists on 17 shots, good for a 35.3% shooting clip. He was also a monster on the ground balls, winning 45 while posting a 2:1 Created Turnover - Turnover ratio at 24 CTOs and 12 TOs.

Leclaire had a similarly strong year for the Buckeyes. In 15 games, Tre had 26 goals and 37 points on 56 shots on goals (33.8% shooting). The sophomore's inclusion on the roster may surprise some, but you will likely remember Leclaire's contributions en route to Canada's 2nd place finish at the 2016 U19 World Championships in Coquitlam. Tre was named to the All-World Team at that tournament, especially deserved after posting a hat-trick in the finals.

“We are really excited with the roster that we have selected and as a coaching staff are honoured to have the chance to lead this team at the 2018 World Championships,” said head coach Randy Mearns. “Canadian lacrosse talent continues to evolve and excel at the highest levels of the sport.  As a group, we spent a lot time working through our selection process and in the end obviously had to make some very tough decisions.  With so many elite level players in our pool, it was extremely challenging to bring it to the final 23, but now the journey begins."

Other BCJALL graduates making the team include Wes Berg, Josh Byrne, Curtis Dickson and Ben McIntosh.

Good Luck to Team Canada!
