RAIDERS HEADED TO MINTO AFTER HOLDING OFF MOUNTIES
OKOTOKS WINS SERIES 4-3
The Okotoks Raiders and Calgary Mountaineers were virtually inseparable through the first six games of the RMLL Jr. A Finals, and with so much on the line, there was a feeling there would be one more war for all the marbles on Thursday night. The Raiders ended up being the team up to the task, getting some excellent goaltending and timely goals along the way to clinch their third-straight Alberta title over the rival Mounties.
It was the Mounties who struck twice in the opening minutes in front of a tense crowd at the Brentwood Sportsplex with Myles Moffat and Jake Gillis the goal scorers. The Raiders would start to reverse their fortunes towards the end of the 1st period with a goal by Kean Moon. The same script mostly played out in the 2nd period, with the teams trading goals.
It was the 3rd period when the Raiders began to take the game over. Levi Anderson and Ethan Wolf would score just under a minute apart from each other to help give Okotoks its first lead of the game. Anderson would add his third on the Power Play with 4:33 to go and Calgary would never recover. A Safo Arthur goal with just under two minutes to go would double the Raiders lead and prove to be all they needed.
Okotoks is the fourth and final team to qualify for the 2019 Minto Cup, with play getting started next week at the Langley Events Centre. Okotoks will open the tournament against the BC Champion Coquitlam Adanacs.
