New West Ties Coquitlam for Wins After Delta Win
The season series between these two teams was tied at one a piece. Both teams hadn’t seen each other play since May 15th when the Salmonbellies took the game 22-3. Delta came into the game with a few players on the injured list.
The first period was all New West. Leif Paulson scored the first of the game about two minutes in with a great feed from team Captain Curtis Manning. Kyle Belton made use of a slashing penalty to put in a power play goal, and Eric Lewthwaite threw one at the net that trickled through Mike Lowe’s legs.
David Brock had a great night starting in the first by putting in New West’s last goal of the period. Before tonight Brock had played only two games and one point to show.
The Salmonbellies looked confident in both ends for the whole game; and excuse this corny line but they could have opened a deli with all the sandwiches they served the Islanders in the first.
Delta managed to get on the board two minutes into the second. New West made a bad pass and Brandon MacNeil fed Dane Stevens, who made no mistake.
New West countered with Jordan McBride on the power play, but Delta would strike again with Neil Arbogast and John Canil both putting in goals within a minute of each other.
Curtis Manning busted through heavy traffic in front of the Islanders net and put one in, with just 42 seconds left in the period to end the second 6-3.
The 'Bellies would hold the Islanders to three goals just like the last time they met, and would throw in 10 goals of their own in the third.
Jared Beaulieu came in to relieve Mike Lowe after the 16th goal but the damage was already done. Kyle Belton threw in his second of the evening; but the most impressive performance in the period was from David Brock, who before tonight had only played two games this season and had a point total of one.
In the third, Brock assisted Mike Paul’s power play goal before throwing in a behind-the-back goal worthy of a plays of the week reel. Four minutes later I thought I was watching a replay when Brock assisted Kyle Buchanan’s goal thirty seconds before throwing in a power play marker himself. Brock definitely showed some skill tonight.
Craig Robertson had a great night in net for the Bellies even putting up an assist on a third period goal by Kevin Crowley. Robertson had unbelievable accuracy on his long passes, his runners didn’t have to stretch one bit to receive.
Final score tonight from Queen's Park Arena was 16-3 for the Salmonbellies.
