With just a handful of games left in the regular season, teams in the BCJALL are starting to feel the heat of the home stretch. New West has a fairly good grip on third place being six points ahead of Delta, but spots four through six are separated by only three points. A win over the 'Bellies on Friday would leave the Saints just one point behind Nanaimo, and keep their playoff hopes alive.

The game started out with a bit of the rough stuff between the Saints Matt Laustrup and New West's Curtis Dickson who spent the later part of Tuesday night's game versus Coquitlam in the penalty box after fighting Matt Beers. After a couple of penalties were handed out both teams would get some action on the scoresheet with both Leif Mydske and Kevin Crowley scoring two a piece. Matt Wiebe and Chris Jones would score with the man advantage, and Scott Davidson would add an even strength goal for Poco, but New West would double the Saints 6-3 heading into the first break. After allowing four goals on seven shots Tyson Cornfield would be relieved by Mike Lowe in the Poco net after Mark Negrins goal ten minutes into the first period.

A defensive job well done goes to Brett Mydske who not only assisted his brothers second period goal, but had some great sticks at the right time and good vision up the floor to start the rush for New West. It's been nice to see Dickson entertain the emotional side of his game in the past couple of matches, but it would be nicer to see it put to work positively, instead of time spent in the box. If I had to award a man of the match it would go to the same player who had the 'goal of the game'; Kevin Crowley put down three goals and three helpers on the night, and seemed to have an answer for everything Poco threw his way. A solid effort from the 'Bellies tonight after losing a tough one at home to Coquitlam on Tuesday, holding third spot steady in the run to the playoffs.
