Minto Cup Final Game 2 Postponed

by Owen Munro

Game 2 of the Minto Cup Finals has been postponed due to a conflict over the suspension of Brampton player Jeff Teat. Teat was issued an automatic 3-game suspension, which Brampton appealed. In response to that appeal, which would have allowed Teat to play in Game 2, the officials walked off the floor.

Ron McQuarrie joined Sportsnet 650 this morning to discuss the issue more. He says that tournament organizers are looking for short-term solutions that would allow them to get through the tournament. He says the issue between the official and Teat is a "he said, he said" situation.

"It's a point of contention, between athlete and official. Both have their own claim of what was said on the floor," McQuarrie said. "A committee heard the appeal, they issued their ruling about five minutes prior to the start of the game, maintaining the discipline to the coach [Dan Teat] but overturning the discipline of the player."

McQuarrie says he's still optimistic that Game 2 will be played tonight, saying they have "coals in the fire" in search of a solution.

"We're always going to be optimistic and confident we will be playing tonight. We're trying to work through our issues. The point of the officials was that they felt threatened and they didn't get the support. It leads to a bigger question, this issue we're dealing with is also a bigger question of abuse of officials, not just in lacrosse, but of other sports in society. It boiled over and the officials took their stand.

"We're having continued discussions going on trying to find that solution, that compromise, something that will satisfy all involved."

We will continue to update you with the latest as it comes in.
