Michael Messenger Brings Home NCAA DII Championship

Via Coquitlam Adanacs and NCAA.com -- Current Coquitlam Adanacs player Michael Messenger, along with Adanacs Alumni Vinny Ricci and Reid Reinholdt, delivered again this year for the Limestone College Saints with a 9-6 win over the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Sunday, May 24, 205 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.

Messenger scored 2 Goals and 1 Assist over a short span of 4:44 in the 4th Quarter. Messenger's total of 4 Goals and 1 Assist combined with his late heroic scoring run for Limestone earned him the Championship Most Outstanding Player award leading the Saints to back-to-back NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championships.

“Lacrosse is a game of runs, so we just had to get our run started” Messenger said post game to NCAA reporter Brian Falzarano. Messenger got the ball rolling, much like he had done throughout the regular season.

Messenger entered Championship weekend leading NCAA DII with 51 Goals on a dominant 20-1 Limestone team. In unfamiliar territory, Limestone trailed 6-5 heading into the 4th Quarter against Le Moyne (16-3).

“We just knew that we had to stick to the game plan and focus on the end result,” added junior midfielder Reid Reinholdt.

“All year, not just myself but others too, we just play stronger in the fourth quarter,” Messenger said. “I felt when I had the ball on my stick, it was easier just coming to me. I had people like Reid here who was getting me open and the other offense was helping me out, and I was just getting the shots that were landing.”

“All throughout the year we've been a second half team, a third- and fourth-quarter team,” Messenger said. “We knew to just keep pushing, keep going, and we'd get them.”

Congratulations to Mike, Vinny, and Reid for a tremendous year and NCAA DII Championship! The Coquitlam Adanacs are excited to have Messenger back and are awaiting his return as they look to add to a 7 Game win streak. Coquitlam's next game is Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30PM Coquitlam Sports Complex against the Langley Thunder
