Langley Thunder promote Leveque to Head Coach
Langley, BC (October 27, 2017) – The Langley Thunder have announced Matt Leveque as their Junior A Head Coach .
Leveque has spent the last three years coaching the Thunder Intermediate A team. Under his tenure, the team has made the Provincials three times including a gold medal in 2016 and a bronze in 2017.
“Matt is a very good young coach and we are happy to reward him with this promotion,” said General Manager Rob Buchan. “He has earned this opportunity with the exceptional job he has done working over the past three years with our Intermediate A club. Matt has earned the respect of our players and staff and we are fully confident that he will take full advantage of this opportunity.”
Before he entered the coaching world, Leveque was an accomplished player himself. Playing Junior A with the Surrey Stickmen and was named to the Second Team All-Star. He spent five years with the Colorado Mammoth of the NLL where he appeared in 52 games, scoring 7 goals, 7 assists and 14 points. He spent the entirety of his 10-year WLA career with the Thunder including eight years as the team’s captain, where he appeared in 180 regular season and playoff games, scoring 36 goals, 65 assists and 101 points. Leveque led the Senior Thunder to back-to-back WLA Championships in 2011 and 2012 and two MANN Cup appearances.
“I am really looking forward to getting the preparation for the season underway,” said Head Coach Matt Leveque. “We have a good group of guys here and I am looking to build on what Coach Springett started and I am excited to make my own mark on this team in the future.”
