Lakers comeback to defeat Islanders

The Burnaby Lakers (2-4) came back and defeated the Delta Islanders (1-3) at Bill Copeland Arena last night, 13-11, giving them their second win of the season. Delta was led by first year Ryan Jones with 6 points (2-4), while Burnaby was led by second year, Mason Pomeroy with 5 points (1-4).
Roman Rose got the start for the Islanders, while Elijah Uema-Martin started for the Lakers. Aidan Baker started the scoring for the Lakers, while Taylor Goundrey answered back for the Islanders, closely followed by Dylan Kaminski (Burnaby) within 5 minutes of the game. R. Jones (Delta) and Brad Rowbotham (Burnaby) exchanged goals about 15 minutes in, while Patrick Szabo and Riley Phillips extended Delta’s lead going into the second period (4-3 Delta; Shots 19-14 in favor of Delta).
In the second period, R. Jones, Dawson Trimble, Liam MacDonald continue Delta’s scoring run. 12 minutes into the period, Brady Barrett stops Delta’s run, only to be answered by a goal from Brad Phillips. After the second period, Delta lead 8-4 (Shots 17-12 Delta).
The Lakers entered the third period ready to win. Rowbotham and Goundrey tally their second of the night early in the third. Pomeroy, Barrett, and Kaminski begin to close the gap with Delta. MacDonald got his second goal, only to be answered by Damon Prince. Josh Dumont tied the game up for Burnaby with 5 minutes left in the third period. Pearson Willis got the go-ahead goal for the Lakers with 3 minutes left. MacDonald completed his hat trick tying the game for Delta with less than 2 minutes left. Following MacDonald’s hat trick, Burnaby’s Kaminski scored his hat trick goal and the game winner with a minute left to play. Delta called a time out to try and take the game to overtime, but Barrett was able to get the ball and score in the last 10 seconds to secure Burnaby’s win.
Rose faced 43 shots, allowing 13 goals, for a save percentage of 0.69, while Uema-Martin faced 50 shots, allowing 11 goals, for a save percentage of 0.78.
Burnaby’s next game is on Wednesday, May 17, Coquitlam Sports Centre @ 7:30 pm.
Delta’s next game is on Friday, May 19, Poco Rec Centre @ 8:00 pm.
