Junior and Senior Shamrocks announce partnership

by Owen Munro

Despite being a mainstay in the Vancouver Island lacrosse community, the three senior Victoria Shamrocks organizations had operated independently to each other until the Intermediate and Junior teams merged in 2011.

Starting this year, they are all coming together under one banner in hopes of a strong partnership that will make all three clubs a force on and off the floor.

"We are thrilled to be working with a first class organization like the Senior Shamrocks and outstanding individuals like Chris Welch and Jim Hartshorne," said Junior Shamrocks president Ron Hampton.

Senior Shamrocks general manager Chris Welch believes it's a good fit for all three clubs because the organization benefits from having one common goal and focus.

"When we call up a player from junior, he shouldn't have to learn our systems," Welch said. "Under this agreement the three teams will work closely together to maintain similar styles of play."

The Shamrocks open their season on the road against the Burnaby Lakers on Sunday, April 23 at 5:00 PM.
