Islanders take a 2-1 series lead over Salmonbellies

After the Salmonbellies evened the series at 1 on Tuesday night, game 3 would take place at the Ladner Leisure Centre on Saturday evening with one team leaving with a 2-1 series lead.

The Islanders were certainly ready for game 3. Two minutes into the first period, ChaseFraser scored to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead. The Islanders continued to dominate, but it wasn’t until 9:52 left on the clock till they got on the board again with another Fraser goal.

JonPhillips scored 33 seconds later to make it 3-0 and then the EvanMessenger and Ryan Lewis each scored within 26 seconds of each other, to make it 5-0.

The ‘Bellies finally got on the board with a JeremyBosher goal, but they weren’t able to get anything going after that as they mustered only 9 shots in the first period.

Bosher tried to kickstart something for the ‘Bellies in the second period when he scored 1:30 in, but the Islanders responded minutes later when Phillips scored his second of the game to make it a 6-2 game.

Islanders’ Tyrell Hamer-Jackson received two double minor penalties, which was certainly a blessing for the ‘Bellies. BrineRice and Bosher each scored on the powerplay, cutting the Islanders lead to 2.

Bosher continued to dominate in this game as he scored fourth goal of the game with 6:59 to go to make it a one-goal game.

However, the tables turned and it turned rather quickly. The Islanders scored two goals 7 seconds apart and two penalties didn’t even stop them. The Islanders went on to score three short-handed goals before the second period ended to make it a 11-5 game.

With the score at 11-5, one could guess how this third period would go, just like many other games that are out of reach in the third period.

AdamDickson scored 1:23 into the third period, but that got quickly cancelled out when ReeceCallies scored to make it 12-6.

As for the rest of the third period, both teams kept exchanging goals, but the referees were in for a busy one as they called 11 penalties before a fight between MitchellMacaulay and MitchWinter with 2:46 remaining. ShawnRichardson and PrestonLupul each got unsportsmanlike calls at the same time as both teams just packed it in for the final 2:46 knowing it’s going to be an intense game 4 at Queens Park on Tuesday night.
