Islanders Take a 2-0 Lead in Best-of-5 Series
After a disappointing game 1, the Victoria Shamrocks looked to get back on track against the Delta Islanders at the Ladner Leisure Centre on Sunday evening.
The Islanders got on the board first when Tre Leclaire scored at 5:05 of the first period, but then the Shamrocks controlled the rest of the period whether it was even strength, on the powerplay or shorthanded, they did it all and it all started with JakeCullen . Cullen scored right after the Islanders made it 1-0 and Cullen followed up with another goal on the powerplay 3 minutes later to make it 2-1 ‘Rocks.
With 6:35 remaining, Ryan Lewis made it 3-1 ‘Rocks and 35 seconds before the period ended, Cole Pickup scored shorthanded to make it 4-1.
The Islanders may have been a bit sluggish in the first period, but the same cannot be said in the second period. The intensity started to pick up and there was more pushing and shoving.
SpencerBromley really took control of the second period for the Islanders. He opened the scoring in the second at the 5:59 mark to cut the Shamrocks lead to 2. After a goal from CodyNass and EvanMessenger , just over a minute apart, the game was tied at 4.
The ‘Rocks regained the lead with 5:47 left, but as mentioned earlier, Bromley took control of this period as he scored two goals 8 seconds apart with 4 minutes remaining in the period to give the Islanders their first lead since the 5:05 mark of the first period.
The third period was tightly defended by both teams and both goaltenders were making big saves for their team.
The first goal of the third period didn’t come until 8:57 left in the game, and it came on the powerplay as McLeanChicquen scored for the ‘Rocks to even the game up.
With 4:54 remaining, Islanders’ Shawn Richardson gave the Islanders the lead and the ‘Rocks just couldn't tie it back up as the Islanders go up 2-0 in the best-of-5 series with a 7-6 win.

Both teams will now have a week’s rest as game 3 is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 th at 5:00PM at the Panorama Recreation Centre. Fans please make note that there will not be a pay-per-view webcast for Game 3. The Shamrocks will go back to the drawing board to figure out a way to pull off a victory in game 3 and stay alive, while the Islanders will just continue to do what they have been doing all series.
