Islanders late push not enough to defeat 'Bellies
After winning on Friday night, the Delta Islanders were right back at it when they hosted the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Saturday night.
The first goal of the game came off a powerplay where Salmonbellies’ JohnnyPearson gave the ‘Bellies a 1-0 lead.
ChaseFraser made it a tie game before the halfway mark and he also gave the Islanders a lead when he scored on the powerplay with 10:50 left in the first period.
Neither team could stay out of the penalty box, as it was the ‘Bellies who evened the score on another powerplay scored by PrestonLupul.
Just over a minute later, Islanders’ JonPhillips scored two goals a minute apart to give the Islanders a 4-2 lead. The ‘Bellies were able to cut the Islanders lead to 1 when ConnorRobinson scored on the powerplay, making the ‘Bellies 3-for-4 on the powerplay in the first period.
Looks like the ‘Bellies sorted out their game plan during intermission because they came out hard and strong in the second period. Within the first 6 minutes, Robinson netted 2 and Lupul scored his second of the game to give the ‘Bellies a 6-4 lead.
The Islanders scored a quick one after Lupul’s goal, but shortly after, ColtonBykowsky scored to regain the two-goal lead for the Salmonbellies.
Lupul continued to dominate for the ‘Bellies, scoring 2, one of them being shorthanded, to make it a 9-5 game. TreLeclaire scored for the Islanders, but before the period ended, TommyRobertson scored to give the ‘Bellies a 10-6 lead.
The ‘Bellies practically put the game out of reach early in the third period. CarterJensen and Lupul each scored to make it 12-6 with 14 minutes to go. The Islanders tried to make a bit of a push, scoring 3 straight in the next 4 minutes, but the ‘Bellies played great defense in the final 10 minutes, followed by some great saves by ErikKratz.
The Salmonbellies went on to defeat the Islanders 13-10.

The Salmonbellies won’t be able to rest up as they take on the Victoria Shamrocks on Sunday evening and the Islanders will get a nice break as they won’t play until Saturday night when they take on the the Lakers at home.
