Islanders defeat Timbermen 20-5

The Delta Islanders have been one of the better teams this season, but they saw a setback this past Saturday when they lost at home to the Victoria Shamrocks. With the Nanaimo Timbermen in town, the Islanders looked to take their league-leading goal scoring up against the third-worst team in goals against and the outcome was exactly what the Islanders wanted.

Chase Fraser opened the scoring for the Islanders very quickly into the first period as he scored 9 seconds into the game, which certainly wasn’t the start the Timbermen were looking for, but they got it back when Connor Leies evened the score just over a minute later.

Unfortunately for the Timbermen, the game got out of hand real fast. Goals from JaydenCampbell and TreLeclaire were 17 seconds apart just before the 4-minute mark made it 3-1 Islanders followed by 4 goals two minutes later, all within a minute to make it a commanding 7-1 lead for the Islanders.

Campbell notched his second of the game at the half way mark, but the Timbermen seemed to have regrouped for a little bit at least as AlecMolander and MontyChisholm each scored for the Timbermen to make it 8-3 by the end of the first period.

Surprisingly, as with most games that get out of hand early, penalties weren’t much of a story. The Islanders did net 2 powerplay goals in the second period as they went 2/3 on the powerplay.

The second period was tough to watch, especially as a goaltender supporter. The Islanders threw everything at the net, as they totalled 30 shots on goal just in the second period alone and they were able to put 8 in the back of the net with the Timbermen only getting 9 on goal and scoring 1.

Islanders’ Bromley had a great night as he led the team with 7 points at the end of the night, but those points were all tallied in the first two periods.

The third period was a lot tamer than the first two, aside from penalties to CodyClark and Islanders’ MitchWinter who both received 10-minute misconducts for altercations after the whistle.

The Islanders didn’t go as hard in the third nor did they need to, but with 20 shots on goal and another 4 added on the scoreboard, the Islanders finished the night with a whopping 64 shots on net as they went on to win 20-5.
