Islanders Announce Defensive Coach
The Delta Islanders and Head Coach Shaun Springett, are pleased to announce that A.J. Smith has agreed to join the Junior A coaching staff for the upcoming 2012 season. A.J. will take on the reins of defensive coach; he brings to the club a tremendous amount of knowledge, skill and determination all attributes he demonstrated as a player.
His playing resume includes, Junior A lacrosse for the New West Salmonbellies which he went to 2 Minto Cups and winning one in 1994. He had won best defensive player every year with the Jr A Bellies. Not only was he the captain of this club, but he also won the most inspirational player award in his final Jr A season.
He was a first round draft choice of the in the WLA for the Coquitlam Senior A Adanacs, including a Mann Cup Championship in 2001 with the Coquitlam Senior A Adanacs. He has also shared best defensive player award with Pat Coyle while playing with the Adanacs. He has also played professional lacrosse in the NLL, playing for the Vancouver Ravens to add to his lacrosse credentials.
