A much-anticipated Game 5 proved to be nothing but a mirage for the Whitby Warriors, who saw their playoff hopes disappear in disappointing fashion, losing 8-2 on the road to the Brampton Excelsiors.
The Warriors were shut down by a stout defence and didn't score their first goal of the game until 13:18 into the second period off the stick of Adam Poitras. Josh Dawick would give the Dubs a second goal five minutes into the third to make things interesting, but the for the Excelsiors, it was never in doubt. Brampton got a pair of goals from Seth Van Schepen to end Whitby's faint hopes.
John Vezina and Austin Hasen added the remaining goals with a pair of hat-tricks while James Whiteford had four assists. Steven Orleman picked up the victory in goal. Brampton now moves on to take on the Orangeville Northmen, which starts tonight at Tony Rose Arena at 8 PM EDT.
