GAME 2 RECAP: Adanacs, 'Bellies Take 2-0 Leads

COQUITLAM LEADS SERIES 2-0

In a lot of ways, Game 2 was a mirror image of Game 1. The Victoria Shamrocks raced out to another 1st period lead on the back of two power play goals and had a 3-1 lead before Coquitlam clawed back to lead 4-3 after the first. It was a period that showed that Victoria can run with the Adanacs, but it wouldn't stay that way for long.

The Adanacs would go on a three-goal run after Marshal King tied the game at 4 and wouldn't look back. Tallies by Larson Sundown (2) and Matthew Kim would give the defending champs a 6-4 lead - and then the defense took over. Much like Game 1 when Victoria couldn't buy a goal, Coquitlam really shut things down, not allowing a goal for the final 35 minutes. It's the second game in a row that Victoria failed to score over the balance of the final 30 minutes of the game, putting up just 8 shots in the third period.

Now on the brink of elimination, Victoria will need to figure out how to score when it matters. Cameron Dunkerley was again outstanding, making 37 saves on 45 shots for a .822 save percentage and allowing just one goal in the 3rd period. Christian Del Bianco was a worthy adversary on the other end, allowing just four goals on 34 shots.

Coquitlam can finish the series off with a Game 3 win back at home on Saturday.

NEW WEST LEADS SERIES 2-0

The Saints have run into the same problem as the Victoria Shamrocks: when push comes to shove and goals are needed, they haven't been there. Both teams find themselves down 2-0 despite what have mostly been good performances. Poco went the final 33 minutes without a goal after Carson Rees found the back of the net to cut New West's lead to 3-2.

Cam Garlin had a strong performance for the 'Bellies, scoring his first three goals of the playoffs, including the game-winner. Goaltending featured prominently in this matchup as well, with Cam Overby going toe-to-toe with Erik Kratz. Kratz only allowed 2 goals on 41 shots while Overby stopped 39 shots in the loss.

Poco has a chance to save their season tomorrow night at Queens Park Arena.
