Encouraging Performance

There is an 18 point difference between the Coquitlam Adanacs and the South Fraser Stickmen in the BCJALL standings; Thursday’s game was widely predicted to be a blowout. After losing their last two games by close scores to Port Coquitlam, the Stickmen came into this game desperate for a win, even against the number two team in the league.

As expected, Coquitlam was first to the score sheet thanks to two quick goals from Jarrett Davis followed closely by a marker from Travis Cornwall. Michael Krgovich assisted on all three of the A’s goals and made sure to take advantage of the loose balls at the North Surrey Arena.

Shots on goal for South Fraser were low in the first as they tried to figure out how to crack Joel Weber.

In the second Coquitlam seemed to be coasting with their three goal lead and South Fraser took the opportunity to make a move. Greg Mahoney and Scott Davidson both put two goals in a piece, and d-man Anthony Besse got a great lead pass for his first goal this season as a Stickmen, against his old club none-the-less.

Jarrett Davis would put in three more goals for the A’s, including a beauty short handed; and markers from Krgovich and Creighton Reid would make sure the second period would end with the Adanacs ahead 8-5.

Another bright spot for the Stickmen in the second would be Joel Weber pulling himself from the A’s net halfway through the period. Frustration from having a 71 save percentage on the night so far? One would assume.

South Fraser was on an obvious high going into the third only being down three goals to Coquitlam, but the A’s would have Mike Lowe’s number before the night was through.

Davis and Krgovich would score again in the third, along with Jordan Weir and Scott Defrancesco. The A’s put eighteen shots on Lowe in the third and it paid off.

Mitch Dibblee, Graham Weidenhammer, and Greg Mahoney would score for South Fraser but it just wasn’t enough to topple Coquitlam.

Final score from the North Surrey Arena was 12-8 for the visiting Adanacs. It was a valiant effort from the Stickmen who are considered down and out for the season; at this point it’s only up to them to prove everyone wrong. Coquitlam may or may not have been off their game for the night, but with a performance like Thursdays, the Stickmen should be able to carry some momentum through to their next couple of games against Nanaimo and New West.
