Delmonico to Coach Saints

The Port Coquitlam Saints have announced the appointment of Nick Delmonico as head coach, effective January 21st 2010.

After a 6-14 record in the 2009 season, Port Coquitlam is looking to climb the standings and make the most of their current and upcoming talent. "He's a no nonsense type of coach with twenty five years of coaching experience under his belt at various levels," says Poco GM Reg Thompson, "that will be a definite asset to our club, and we are excited to have him behind our bench."

Delmonico's lacrosse background includes a four year run as leading scorer for the Burnaby Cablevision Junior A team, and fifth leading goal scorer in association history. He continued his success in the WLA, again leading the scoring in his rookie year with the Vancouver Burrards. Delmonico's NLL history includes stints in Washington and Montreal, and his playing career was rounded out with six years playing for the Coquitlam Adanacs.

Poco fans are no stranger to seeing Delmonico behind the bench, as he was most recently involved as the coach of the Saints Intermediate 'A' team. As for what he will do for the Junior 'A' team this year, he says setting goals will be key. "I want to bring focus and direction to the team," says Delmonico, "I want to ensure players have an understanding of expectations that will be placed on them, and a clear understanding of their role. People can expect the 2010 Junior 'A' Saints to play a much more exciting brand of transition lacrosse, with a key focus on strong defending."
