DEADLINE DEALS: Bellies, Adanacs Load Up for Minto

by Owen Munro

Tyson Kirkness

Jr. A & Jr. B Tier 1 Playing Rights to Kyle Nichols

Coquitlam added one of the better veteran defenders available after Langley dropped what was essentially a must-win game in Victoria earlier Saturday afternoon. The former Thunder captain will get a chance to compete to get into the Minto Cup and adds some more grit coming out the back gate. Kirkness has played more than 50 games for Langley's Jr. A club over the last three seasons, including playoffs.

In return, Langley gets a player who will get an expanded role he may not have gotten with the Adanacs; he can also help Langley's Junior B Tier 1 club as they head into the stretch run towards playoffs.

Ryland Rees

Dylan Foulds

Future Considerations

This was certainly the biggest trade in terms of sheer number of players heading from one team to another. It's an interesting move from Port Coquitlam; the Saints sit third in the league standings, but it's a great move for a team that has proven they want to compete now and in the future. They likely looked at the moves made by Coquitlam and New West and decided to stock the cupboard with future draft picks that can keep the team competitive for years to come.

On Coquitlam's end, this is the move that may be them over the top, not just in the BCJALL but in the Minto Cup. Ryland Rees will miss some time when he joins Team Canada at the FIL World Field Championships in Israel, but he would be back in time for the big show. Dylan Foulds is second in the league in points with 79 and leads the league in assists with 56. He will be a great complementary piece to players like Thomas Semple and Chase Scanlan and will add secondary scoring in his own right. Graydon Bradley is another strong two-way player that gives the Adanacs even more depth.

Bobby Kidd III

Nathaniel Kozevnikov

Future Considerations

The Salmonbellies reply with a major move of their own. New West adds two major pieces from the Langley Thunder in dynamic transition player Bobby Kidd III and sharp shooting Nathaniel Kozevnikov. With 25 goals in 17 games, Koz can help address some of the potential scoring woes New West might face with the loss of Tre Leclaire to Team Canada's field team.  Leclaire currently leads the league in goals with 48 and will be sorely missed, but if Kozevnikov can help fill the void the trade will be worth it alone.

Kidd adds another dimension to New West's athletic backend, which will be needed if they want to make another Minto appearance.
