DOUG HAZELWOOD MEMORIAL TROPHY

COACH OF THE YEAR

RICH CATTON, DAREN FRIDGE & SHELDON PALIDWOR

NEW WEST SALMONBELLIES

This year's coach of the year goes to three men who were tapped to help take New West to the next level in the Jr. A circuit. While the team fell to the Coquitlam Adanacs in the BCJALL Finals, the future is still bright for the 'Bellies and much of it is thanks to the work put in by Rich Catton, Daren Fridge and Sheldon Palidwor.

The team instilled great discipline and a fast-paced two-way system that helped the team to a 15-6 record, good for 2nd place in the league. The 'Bellies were a tough team to beat both physically and mentally and it showed for large stretches of the year. The club struggled towards the end of the regular season, but coaching combined with a solid veteran presence helped unite the team as they beat Port Coquitlam in the semifinals for the second year in a row.

New West was the least penalized team this year with 321 penalties in 21 games and was a well-coached team from top to bottom.

Congrats to Rich, Daren and Sheldon on a great honour.

Tomorrow we will announce the Keith McEachren Trophy for the most sportsmanlike player in the league
