'Bellies Play 'Lets Make A Deal'
Recent announcements by New Westminster Salmonbellies General Manager Doug Zack prove that he is not reluctant to go the trade route to improve his club’s chances in the upcoming British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League season.
In a major deal announced this week, the 'Bellies traded veteran Drew Duncan (16 games, 15 goals, 10 assists in 2008), the Junior playing rights to goalie Blake Duncan and a 2nd round draft pick in 2011 to the Delta Islanders for TJ Cowx.
Zack commented “ We went hard after TJ. Delta drove a hard bargain and although we had to give up some good players and a draft pick we are really pleased to get TJ to the 'Bellies. We believe we got a player with a great upside. TJ impressed us tremendously in the 5 games he played for us last year and he played a huge role for our Intermediate A team that won the BC Championship last season. He brings great grit and determination and we see him as a key player for us through out his upcoming junior career.”
Not one to sit idly by Zack also announced that the 'Bellies have traded the playing rights to 2009 draft picks Brandon Bull and Sean Lundstrom to Langley for Travis Irving and the junior playing rights to Keegan Bal and Mark Leroux.
The 'Bellies also completed another deal, trading the playing rights to Alexander Farrell to Delta for the rights to Justin Salt.
In other 'Bellies news, the team announced the release of 3rd year veteran Alex Tuura.
