'Bellies Make Coaching Staff Changes
The New Westminster Junior A Salmonbellies Lacrosse Club are pleased to announce the recent addition of Dan Perreault to the 'Bellies' coaching staff for 2010. Dan will replace the departing Kevin Stewardson, who after one year with the club, has moved on to dedicate more of his time with his young family. The ‘Bellies’ would like to thank Kevin for his dedication and the experience he brought to the team in 2009 and wish him the best in his future endeavours.
Dan joins the Bellies after serving the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs as a very successful Head Coach for the last 3 years. 2009 was Dan’s finest year with the Junior Adanacs going 20-1-0 in season play and then beating the Salmonbellies in a memorable 6 game series in the Western Final, capping off that year with the Minto Cup birth back East.
Dan began his Junior A career as an under aged player back in 1974 with the Burnaby Cablevision. An all-star 5-year career (1st team All-Stars in '75 and '78, League Scoring Champion in ’78) was highlighted by, as the team captain, the winning of two Minto Cup Championships in 1977 and 1978. Drafted by the Vancouver Burrards of the WLA in 1979, Dan enjoyed a successful 8-year Senior A career before retiring. This year Dan received the highest honour a player can achieve by being inducted into the 'Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame'. Included in this years ‘Hall of Fame’ ceremonies is the induction of the Burnaby Junior A Cablevision teams from 1977 to 1979, were Head Coach Brad Parker will join Dan, having been team-mates of the 1977 Minto Cup Champions.
Dan has been involved in coaching for over 13 years, from various levels including leading Team BC in both the Peewee and Bantam Nationals to his most recent outing as ‘Offensive Assistant Coach’ with the NLL Colorado Mammoth. Coach Brad Parker believes the acquisition of Dan to our coaching ranks will greatly assist the Bellies in our push forward to return the Minto Cup to the West. “I have played with and been friends with Dan since we played Junior together; building a Minto Cup franchise starts at the top, I have always respected the way in which Dan teaches the game and manages the players, he is a professional and a real asset to our team.”
