BCJALL - Week 1 In Review

The first week has been completed in the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League 2005 season and things look a little different than they did last year at this time. Yes the Burnaby Lakers are still undefeated, but the Delta Islanders have already equaled last year's win total; the Surrey Stickmen are 2 - 0 and the expansion Nanaimo Timbermen are playing as the newest member of the BCJALL. All in all a good start to the season.

There are Shamrocks galore near the top of the individual player stats board due to their 20 - 1 thumping of the Timbermen.

Ilija Gajic continues the great lineage of the Gajic legacy collecting 9 points in their 15 - 7 win over the Saints and that puts him near the top.

The Shamrock's Morwick brothers (Curt and Kyle) are also in the top 10 with 8 and 6 points respectively. Chad Evans (Shamrocks) and Tom Johnson (Islanders) lead the goal scoring category with 6 each.

Russil Mills of the 'Bellies leads the goaltenders save percentage as he stopped 33 of 36 Timbermen shots for a 91.67% average in one game played. Matt Morehouse (88.24%) is right behind him after a couple of strong outings for the Stickmen.

I caught some of the Islanders/Saints game last night and was impressed with the young talent on the floor. Curtis Dickson for the Saints and Jason Jones of the Islanders are a couple of bright lights to enter the league this year. Both are first year Intermediates.

Speaking of the Saints, they looked like a young hungry team, with lots of hustle and energy. After a shaky start, away to a strong Victoria team, coach Dubyna got his Timbermen in order and gave the Jr. Bellies all they could handle at Nanaimo. They may be young and inexperienced but they'll give it everything they have in all contests.
