BCJALL AWARDS: Armstrong named Most Sportsmanlike
KEITH MCEACHREN TROPHY
MOST SPORTSMANLIKE PLAYER
This player is judged for his ability and sense of fair and clean play.
DENNON ARMSTRONG, COQUITLAM ADANACS
There are always players you love to play with but would hate to play against, and vice-versa. That goes both ways. As much as there is the type of player who may be noticed on the floor more because they're engaging in after-the-play festivities, there are also those who don't engage in it and focus on fulfilling their role in the game of lacrosse.
Both are appreciated in this rough-and-tumble, fast-paced game where emotions often run higher than the score. It is guys like Dennon Armstrong who don't bother with the extracurriculars, but are still just as tough to play against. They are the players who often gain the most respect from players looking back on their Junior careers five years from now.
Armstrong has been that and more during his awesome career with the A's. There probably aren't a lot of guys who have scored just as many points as Armstrong did this year, and keep his penalty minutes that low. 79 points and only four penalty minutes for Armstrong; Delta's Ryan Jones came close at 78 points and four PIMs, and New West's Carter Dickson was the next closest amongst the league's top goal scorers.
Armstrong is the type of player who will go into the dirty areas to help his team win, and take all the shots in the world from defenders looking to intimidate. But he does it with a style that commands respect from everyone on the floor and in the stands.
Armstrong exemplifies everything the Keith McEachren Trophy is supposed to represent and is an excellent and deserving recipient of this award. Congrats Dennon!
