Another Road Win For 'Bellies
The Stickmen have had six days to think about, dissect, analyze, and figure out exactly what got them their first win of the season against Nanaimo last week. Trying to get win number two against the Salmonbellies would be no easy task for South Fraser; but the team was still jacked on their first check in the win column, and came out of the gates hungry against New West.
The first started with a quick pace, back and forth for both teams until Kyle Belton found the back of the net for the 'Bellies. South Fraser would answer back with only their second shot of the game when Scott Davidson got a great feed from Mitch Dibblee to even the score at one a piece.
The tie would carry over to the second, where New West came out a completely different team and would score four goals in four minutes to take the lead in the game.
Graham Chandler would come in to replace Mike Lowe in the South Fraser net, but the 'Bellies would score four more goals to take command of the period. The Stickmen would manage to score two power play goals from Mitch Dibblee and Scott Davidson but the second would end with New West up 9-3.
The third period had a chippy feel to it; Eric Lewthwaite would score his third of the night for the 'Bellies, and a power play goal from Alex Turner would cushion their lead. Mitch Dibblee would also round out his hat trick on the night for the Stickmen but there was too much of a gap to close.
As expected there was a fight towards the end of the third. Ryan Harwood from the Stickmen and James Poelzer dropped the gloves, but only Harwood dropped his helmet. From the stands it looked like Poelzer landed a bunch of punches on Harwood but when he was being escorted off the floor there wasn't a scratch on his face. I would have liked to see this fight as a fair draw but with Poelzer not taking his lid off- automatic nod goes to Harwood.
Final score from North Surrey Arena was 11-4 for the visiting 'Bellies, who are now on a three game road win streak.
Shots on goal was once again the story for the Stickmen in this game. Only 29 shots over three periods compared with New West's 62. When South Fraser manages to throw a ball on net, they make a pretty good shot percentage but they need more opportunities to do so. A simple concept to say, to actually carry out on the floor might be a bit difficult. If South Fraser can figure out a way to incorporate more shots into their play, they might just have a few more wins in their favour.
