Adanacs Squeak Out Win Against Lakers
The Coquitlam Adanacs looked to regroup from their loss to the \'Bellies on Sunday evening when they visited the Burnaby Lakers at Bill Copeland Arena.
The Lakers played with a short bench this evening and their leading goal scorer Aidan Milburn was missing in action, but that didn\'t hold the Lakers back in the first period. It was a rather quiet period as both teams played tight defence and saw exceptional goaltending from both goaltenders.
Lakers\' Tyler Vogrig opened the scoring at 2:49 and he netted his second goal at 7:11 to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. The Adanacs cracked Lakers' goaltender Xander McDonald at 10:50 when Jordan Gilles scored to cut the Lakers lead to one.
The Adanacs got off to a quick start in the second period when Tyler Pace scored 20 seconds in to tie the game, but it was the Lakers who continued to keep up the pressure like they did in the first period. Vogrig notched his third of the game followed by a Matt Shields goal at 4:43 to give the Lakers a 4-2 lead.
The Adanacs started to get some luck on their side at 8:51 when Gilles took a shot and the ball just trickled in and then Andy Taylor took a shot which went off a body and top corner at 9:31 to tie the game at 4-4.
Adanacs' Michael Messenger gave the Adanacs their first lead of the game at 12:53 and Cole Shafer added to the lead at 15:38, but then dominant Vogrig notched his fourth of the game for the Lakers just over a minute later to cut the Adanacs lead to one. That Lakers goals prompted a goalie change for the Adanacs as Christian DelBianco took over the crease.
The Adanacs got off to a quick start again in the third period when Johnathan Kraakman scored at 1:30 to give the Adanacs a bit more cushion on the scoreboard. Chase McIntyre made it 8-5 Adanacs at 4:42 and while the Adanacs did get into some penalty trouble throughout the rest of the period, the Adanacs defence and goaltending from DelBianco proved to be too much for the Lakers. Lakers\' Shields was able to score with 25 seconds left to make the score 8-6, but it was just too little too late as the Adanacs squeak out a win against the Lakers.
Three stars of the game
1. Burnaby - Tyler Vogrig - 4 goals, 2 assists
