Adanacs One Win Away From Minto

by Owen Munro

Once the dust settled on two of the most controversial days in Junior lacrosse history, the Coquitlam Adanacs shook it all off and took a 2-0 series lead with an 8-6 win over the Brampton Excelsiors. Coquitlam is now just one win away from claiming Junior lacrosse supremacy and can lift the Minto with a win in Game 3 tonight.

The A's never trailed and had a 6-1 lead midway through the second period on the back of Will Clayton's 3 goals. It was a breakout game for Clayton, who was named Coquitlam's game MVP.

Brampton turned the tides towards the end of the middle frame, getting two goals three minutes apart from Clarke Petterson and Jake Boudreau. Despite Brampton outshooting Coquitlam 20-12 in the period, the A's held on in the third period.

The man in the middle of the controversy, Jeff Teat, cut the lead to one on back-to-back goals with 10 minutes to go in the game. The Excelsiors' D was stingy and tough to beat, keeping Coquitlam to the outside and working hard to limit shot opportunities. But a pair of goals from Dennon Armstrong and Ethan Ticehurst, Armstrong's coming with the man advantage, gave Coquitlam some breathing room.

Christian Del Bianco was busy once again, turning aside 45 shots for the win. Jeff Teat was again instrumental in Brampton's scoring, and it's easy to see why their management fought to have him in the lineup. He had 3 goals and an assist on 8 shots. Armstrong and Petterson led their respective teams in scoring with 5 points apiece.

Game 3 goes tonight at the Max Bell Arena at 6 PM Pacific.
