Adanacs Even Season Series With Win Over New West

The Coquitlam Adanacs are back at full strength, and evidently, back at the top of the BCJALL Standings. The A's got big games from Chase Scanlan and Christian Del Bianco en route to defeating the New Westminster Salmonbellies 12-8, regaining the top spot in the league.

Emotions ran high before the game as the two teams came together to remember Olivia Malcom, who was tragically killed in a car accident in Delta last weekend. After the ceremony, though, the two rivals got right into it, splitting the first period 2-2. The Salmonbellies would take a 3-2 lead, but a John Hofseth Power Play marker tied the game and a pair of Gabe Procyk goals allowed Coquitlam to run away with it. Coquitlam would outscore the visitors 5-1 in the middle frame, a run that would all but put the game out of reach.

Will Malcom scored short-handed to cut the lead to 7-4, and the two clubs would trade two-goal runs, but some strong goaltending from Christian Del Bianco (7 saves on 12 shots) meant the 'Bellies would never get closer than 11-7.

As we're used to seeing when these rivals take each other on, spirits ran high with a tussle between Coquitlam's Nick Musso and New West's Drew Andre trading fists midway through the period. Musso got an extra major for the Aggressor but both were headed for an early shower either way.

Top scorers for the two teams were Tre Leclaire (2-3-5) and Chase Scanlan (5-1-6); other standout performances included Will Malcom's two goals, a four-point night from Procyk, and a combined 69 saves between the league's two top netminders in Kratz and Del Bianco.

The rivals will renew acquaintances one more time on Friday, July 6 at the Coquitlam Sports Centre.

Today's action sees the Victoria Shamrocks and Langley Thunder square off, while the Timbermen and Islanders will look to break a deadlock in the standings at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
