3 STARS: Phillips Leads Islanders Rebuild

by Owen Munro

1. RILEY PHILLIPS, DELTA ISLANDERS

4 GAMES, 7 GOALS, 3 ASSISTS, 10 POINTS

Phillips has been one of the most dependable players during Delta's rebuild - and he's been especially good for the Islanders in this latest stretch. With Ryan Jones now on the move to New Westminster, Phillips has been relied upon even more and he's shown he's willing to shoulder that load. His 27.1% shooting percentage on 114 shots is also tops on the team.

With previous Minto Cup experience, Riley was also on the radar of many teams, both in the league and in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He's now on the move to Okotoks for the rest of the summer as the Raiders look to create momentum for their own Minto run. Phillips will add that high-level experience and will be able to chip in offensively.

2. MARSHAL KING, VICTORIA SHAMROCKS

2 GAMES, 9 GOALS, 3 ASSISTS, 12 POINTS

The Shamrocks offense has looked a little more confident since Marshal King returned to the lineup. He's had an immediate impact in his 7 games, putting up 41 points for a 5.9 point per game clip. He's also putting up 10 shots per game, a good enough rate that it takes some of the coverage off the likes of Brad McCulley and Braylon Lumb and Victoria's other secondary snipers.

His 5 power play goals are already tied for third on the team, and the team overall is good for 40 goals on 101 power play opportunities. If Victoria wants to end up going far in the playoffs, they will need to rely on the special teams aspect. The Penalty Kill also looks great; Victoria killing the man-up opportunities at a 68% pace.

3. TORIN VANRHEENAN, LANGLEY THUNDER

3 GAMES, 2-1 RECORD, 123 SAVES, 147 SHOTS, 24 GA, .837% SAVE PERCENTAGE

It's coming close to do-or-die for the Langley Thunder, but the club can feel a little more confident about their chances with his last three performances. He's made 123 saves on 147 shots for a .837 save percentage. If he kept that percentage for the entire regular season he would be second in the league. Besides tough losses to Coquitlam and New West - he held out so the Thunder could win a critical game against an upstart Islanders team 8-7.
