3 STARS: No Sophomore Slump for Malcom
1ST STAR - WILL MALCOM, NEW WESTMINSTER SALMONBELLIES
3 GAMES - 9 GOALS, 11 ASSISTS, 20 POINTS, 19.8% SHOOTING
Malcom has quietly put up another outstanding season on the heels of winning last season's BCJALL Rookie of the Year award. He's already approaching the 83 points he put up with 64 points in 12 games and is putting up 5.3 points per game - up from last year's 4 PPG mark. He's had a solid week building on those numbers with 20 points in three games, including a monster five-goal effort to help find a way past the upstart Nanaimo Timbermen.
He had a hand in three of the four goals the 'Bellies had in coming from behind to defeat the Saints. Along with Tre Leclaire, New West will feel comfortable knowing they have two of the more consistent point-getters in the league going into the playoffs.
2ND STAR - CLARK WALTER, PORT COQUITLAM SAINTS
2 GAMES - 7 GOALS, 2 ASSISTS, 9 POINTS, 26.5% SHOOTING
Walter returned from another season at Limestone to bring an immediate impact to a struggling Saints lineup. He scored four of Poco's seven goals in a loss to the New Westminster Salmonbellies and had another three and two assists in a loss against Burnaby. He will likely be a hot commodity on the trade market as we get closer to the deadline for any team looking to add a proven goal scorer with experience.
He can play in both a supporting or a starring role with ease and has a knack for scoring big goals; he added four game-winning goals in the 2018 season.
3RD STAR - NATE FACCIN, COQUITLAM ADANACS
2 GAMES - 2 WINS, 72 SAVES ON 94 SHOTS, .765 SV%
Goaltending isn't always about stats, but about the key stops being made at the right times. In that regard, Nate Faccin has stepped up big time for the Adanacs, helping them quickly erase back-to-back losses to the Nanaimo Timbermen. He helped exercise Coquitlam's demons by making 36 saves in a win over the T-Men before following it up with some big saves in a close win over the Langley Thunder.
Faccin has big shoes to fill with Christian Del Bianco vacating the crease at the Palace on Poirier, but he has been up to the challenge thus far. He sits third in GAA (7.65) and SV% (.833) in the BCJALL currently, but that's also behind two backups; his own in Cam McLeod and Victoria's Ryan Atkinson. Faccin has gotten plenty of previous experience in both the playoffs and Minto Cups, so he won't be unfamiliar to the pressure should the A's make it to the big dance once again.
