3 STARS: Islanders, Lakers Make Debut

by Owen Munro

1. MASON POMEROY, BURNABY LAKERS
2 GAMES, 4 GOALS, 6 ASSISTS, 10 POINTS

Mason Pomeroy has again been a revalation for the Burnaby Lakers, only this time he has been one of the catalysts for a successful start of the season in Burnaby.

After a breakout season which saw him win hardware and average 2.6 points per game, he's only adding to that. He's not only on pace to smash last season's point totals, he's scoring goals at a rate he hasn't before, either. The Lakers are sitting in last place and do need to make up some ground in the playoff run, and if they do want to make it there, Pomeroy will be have to be a key cog in the engine.

Pomeroy is shooting at a 21.3% clip and has three power play goals.

2. RYAN JONES, DELTA ISLANDERS

1 GAME, 1 GOAL, 6 ASSISTS, 7 POINTS

It's not always about the number of games you play to make it on the BCJALL 3 Stars list, often it's a special performance you see or overall success.

For Jones, it's very much the latter. He keeps racking up the assists and now leads the Islanders in points as the Offense still tries to find its legs on that end of the floor. He and Riley Phillips have separated themselves from the rest of the team when it comes to points. Jones has 29 assists alone, eight ahead of the player in second, Dawson Trimble.

Jones' performance against the Coquitlam Adanacs was a strong one. He had a couple of second-period tallies that helped the Islanders pull the team within four in the second period. Jones then assisted both of Sekawnee Baker's two third period goals, although at that point the game was out of hand.

3. CHASE SCANLAN, COQUITLAM ADANACS

3 GAMES, 11 GOALS, 3 ASSISTS, 14 POINTS

What a return to the BCJALL for Chase Scanlan. He showcased a lot of his talent and skill to the league en route to the Minto Cup last season and has all but picked up where he left off this time around.

Scanlan is scoring goals at close to a three per game clip, putting him second on the team and ninth in the league despite his competition playing double the games in some instances. His 4.1 points per game average also looks a lot better than last season, when he had just 17 points in 10 games. He seems to have relished taking more of a leadership role on this club, but it iwll be interesting to see if he continue his torrid scoring pace when teams start making him the focus of their gameplans on a nightly basis.

Then again, with the Adanacs' depth, it may not matter much in the end.
